A younger friend of mine asked me how to stay positive when everything indicates feeling the opposite. When life feels like it’s all just negative and yuk, including certain people in it.
It’s so hard sometimes to see anything positive in situations that hurt or push us to the nth degree but stay positive we must.
It struck me the other day that staying positive for positive’s sake is not that helpful, that always seeing the world through rose coloured glasses doesn’t work all the time. Life is full of speed bumps, it is not linear and hanging on for dear life while staying firmly strapped in is sometimes the only solution.
I was talking to a friend the other day about life and how hard it can be. How it never stays easy and straightforward, and how the challenges seem to get bigger not smaller. How we’re going along quite well, thank you, then ‘Boof’ out of nowhere comes the hit! Why is that? What did we ever do to deserve that?
It happened to be my birthday and I was with a friend celebrating. Naturally we were overlooking a gorgeous stretch of silvery smooth water, when a magnificent pod of dolphins swam by. It was beautiful and all I felt was joy.
Joy that it appeared right in front of me, and that I was lucky enough to notice it.
